This tour offers the sights, sounds, and presence of Boulder at its best. There are three (3) route distances from which to choose ranging between 20 and 28 miles. This tour takes bike paths, designated bike lanes and routes to see 360 degrees of Boulder. We begin at The Boulder Bikesmith where we get fitted for our bikes then immediately catch the quiet, car-free Boulder Creek Path towards the beautiful foothills carving our way through the lovely and lively Eben G. Fine Park. After a quick stop to view the raging creek, we head north along a quiet street, oft traveled by cyclists, which just happens to also be part of one of Boulder’s historical neighborhoods—Mapleton. We then meander through the aptly named Wonderland Hills (and lakes) area, followed by a trek through Boulder’s newest development, the chic Holiday neighborhood: A prime example of sustainability and new urbanism. We then head eastward and continue through quiet neighborhoods on safe roads with bike lanes, reaching the eastern prairies of Boulder. We now have two route options to choose from: We can head back south into town, or continue out east a bit further, then south, savoring the quiet, tree-lined country roads of rural Boulder County. Once back onto the creek path, we’ll pass some quiet ponds within the pristine wetlands restoration area, an ideal spot to stop for a rest & snack. Continuing through farmland, open space, and rural Boulder neighborhoods, we reach our southern-most part of the loop. This offers another option to add a couple more miles of country roads, before we cut our way through quiet, hilly South Boulder, and begin our journey back north along the bike path, working our way back to our starting point as we cut through the attractive University of Colorado Boulder campus.
A final option to add even MORE miles, is to stay west instead of through the campus, climbing a few challenging hills to reach the Chautauqua Historical Neighborhood with its mansions, old trees, and the lovely Chautauqua Park. We’ll take quaint side streets through old neighborhoods to reach the Boulder Creek Path, returning to our starting point, sufficiently tired and hungry. There are several lunch and snack options within this shopping center or a quick walk across the street to another center with natural foods markets, coffee shops, and bakeries. This tour ride is truly the “Whole Enchilada”. (which you can get at many nearby eateries). |
